May 12, 2025

The Nareit Foundation, a Section 501(c)(3) organization, is inviting affordable housing nonprofits in Hawaii to submit applications for consideration of grants in support of their projects. The deadline for submitting grant applications is Friday, June 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

Grants will be awarded to selected nonprofits through the Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative. Funding for the Nareit Foundation grants is provided by contributions from REITs operating in Hawaii.

Since the introduction of the Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative in November 2018, the Nareit Foundation has awarded $2.5 million in grants to support affordable housing programs by nonprofits on Maui, Kauai, Hawaii Island, Molokai, and Oahu.

Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone commented, “We encourage our local nonprofits to submit grant applications and want to express our gratitude for their dedication to make housing more affordable and to strengthen our communities. We also appreciate the generous financial support of our REIT partners for making these grants available on an annual basis.”

Grant applicants should be implementing projects that provide affordable housing for sale or rent. Grant funds are not intended for planning. Nonprofits with “shovel-ready” projects will receive priority. All applicants must complete the grant application form that can also be accessed on the How to Apply section of the Nareit Hawaii website.

Nareit Hawaii represents the interests of REITs in Hawaii and their participation in civic, community, and policy initiatives to benefit residents statewide, while also supporting community and charitable organizations that address social issues of importance. Hawaii REITs are long-term property holders that own, renovate and manage affordable housing projects, commercial buildings, shopping centers, medical office buildings, hotels, public storage facilities, cell phone towers, and logistical spaces and warehouses for small businesses.
