The Nareit Foundation is inviting Hawaii nonprofits to submit applications seeking grants this year in support of affordable housing programs. The deadline for submitting grant applications is July 15, 2022.
Grants will be announced starting Sept. 1, 2022, and awarded later this year through the Foundation’s Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative. Funding for the grants is provided by donations from REITs operating in Hawaii.
Since establishing the Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative in November 2018, the Foundation has awarded nearly $1.4 million in grants to support nonprofit housing programs on Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Hawaii Island and Oahu.
“We’re inspired by the commitment nonprofit groups are making to provide affordable housing solutions and are proud to support their efforts with grants that are helping to put families into new homes,” said Gladys Quinto Marrone, executive director of Nareit Hawaii.
Grant applicants should be implementing projects that provide affordable housing for sale or rent. Grant funds are not intended for planning. Organizations with “shovel-ready” projects or needing to make land purchases for such projects will receive priority. All applicants must fill out the electronic application form on the Nareit Hawaii website (http://www.nareithawaii.com/reits-give-back/) and submit via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nareit Hawaii represents the interests of REITs in Hawaii and their participation in civic, community, and policy initiatives to benefit residents statewide, while also supporting community and charitable organizations that address social issues of importance. REITs are long-term property holders that own, renovate and manage affordable housing projects, commercial buildings, medical facilities, shopping centers, cell phone towers, public storage facilities, and hotels in Hawaii.
